How US Powerball works
A line is 5 numbers from 1 to 69, plus 1 Powerball from a separate 1–26 draw. To win the jackpot you need every one of them, which happens about 1 in 292,201,338 for a single entry. That figure comes from the matrix itself — the number of ways 5 balls can be chosen from 69 — and not from anywhere else.
Nothing about a previous draw changes the next one. The balls have no memory, the machine is checked before every draw, and a number that has not appeared for a year is exactly as likely as one that came up on Saturday.
Where our results come from
Our archive for US Powerball begins on Wednesday 7 October 2015, the first draw under the current number matrix. Earlier draws used a different matrix, and mixing the two would make every statistic on this page wrong.
